Interestingly, Chinese consumers across all age groups have, in some ways, become even more pragmatic.
The individual consumer We also predicted that as Chinese consumers aspire to a better life and trade up their purchases, they would become more discerning and gradually more individualistic. This would lead, for example, to a shift toward more healthy choices, more user-friendly products, and products and brands that better fit their personality.
This could be a big opportunity for niche brandsand a threat to the mass-market brands that had won big in previous years by using scale and ubiquitous availability, supported by the trust gained by heavy advertising.
Our latest research certainly shows a decrease in consumption in categories deemed less healthy and a willingness to spend significantly more on health and more environmentally conscious categories. It also shows consumers are more likely to spend more to indulge themselves and more likely to try new technology. While their consumption choices have become more individualistic, though, it is important to note that family values continue to be at the top of their priorities (Exhibit 3).
One area our predictions missed, however, was by anticipating that consumers, as they became more individualistic in their choices, might focus less on basic product reliability and safety. Perhaps in part because of a number of more recent food scandals, however, consumers seemed more concerned with these issues in 2015 than they were before. When our team first started researching Chinese consumers, nearly ten years ago, many of us were surprised by their fickle attitude toward brands.
Fewer than half of consumers tended to stick with their favorite brands, compared, for example, with almost three quarters of US consumers. As we debated this tendency while making our predictions, we wondered if, in the clash between pragmatism and individualism, brand loyalty would stay low, increase, or even decline.
Ultimately, we decided it would increase as the emotional benefits of brands became more important to consumers and as increased choice and availability of branded products (online and off) would allow consumers to optimize for price and convenience without changing choices too often. Our recent research confirmed the changes we anticipated. Consumers are now significantly less likely to buy a brand that is not already among their favorites, continuing the upward trend we observed in 2011 (Exhibit 4).
The modern shopper Our 2011 predictions were bullish on e-commerce, predicting that Chinese consumers would adapt their channel choices even faster than has occurred in developed markets. We estimated that by 2020, online consumer-electronics purchases would jump to 40 percent, from about 10 percent. More mainstream categories would rise to 15 percent, and some categories, such as groceries (now below 1 percent), could reach about 10 percent. These changes are occurring even as the enduring pragmatism and diligence of the Chinese consumer continue to be in place.
Our latest research shows that consumers of all age groups are much more likely to collect information online, even on fast-moving consumer goods, than they were just three years ago. In 2015, online food and beverages sales (excluding fresh) reached 7. The online share of consumer-electronic purchases, meanwhile, has reached a whopping 39 percent in 2015, and it now looks possible that by 2020 it will be about 50 percent of overall sales.

This week, the USGA have made the decision to revert to a traditional US Open venue after a few years of breaking the mould. In 2013, they returned to the logistically challenging Merion Golf Club (after a 32 year absence) while in 2015, it was the brand-new venue of Chambers Bay. The total yardage will vary over the four days with a maximum length of 7,900 yards - a daunting number at first glance. Only designed in 2006, the course is a bit of an unknown entity having yet to host a PGA Tour event, though it did stage the 2011 US Amateur.
Mike Davis, Executive Director of the USGA, is the man in charge of setting up US Open courses and below is his summary of Erin Hills and what unique properties we should be looking out for. The Wisconsin course is a windswept property which provides a firm playing surface that plays shorter than its length on the scorecard. The one area in which the bombers will have an advantage, is the four par 5s, which all measure over 600 yards and offer the best opportunity for scoring.
It is worth keeping an eye on the weather as Mother Nature will no doubt have a role to play this week, as the wind can blow from any direction. As a result, the fairways are generous in width, especially compared to normal US Open tracks like Oakmont, Pebble Beach and Winged Foot. However, the wind is not its only defence with contoured fairways making for very few flat lies and several semi-blind and blind shots.
These bunkers surround many of the greens, along with shaved run-off areas. Rather than seeing players chipping out of thick rough if they miss the dance floor, they will instead be left with a choice of putting, playing a bump and run or pitching. The only US Open course in recent memory that was reminiscent of this was Pinehurst no. They will be slick surfaces that run true with many raised or multi-tiered. In summary, superior ball-striking skills will be rewarded this week, particularly for those who drive the ball well from the tee.CamHi
Shot-making ability, playing well in the wind and liking firm surfaces are all a plus and an imaginative short-game will be crucial. Being long certainly looks to be an advantage but not essential, although Driving Distance stats will be far more important than Driving Accuracy over the week. Big hitters often taste success on US Open tracks, with eight of the last 11 winners ranking in the top-eight for DD during the week of their success.
A high Greens in Regulation percentage will be key and is usually the case year-in year-out at this major. The US Open invariably boils down to a missed putt here or a key putt there, but in order to be in contention on Sunday, a player needs to be hitting plenty of greens. The average GIR rank for every champion this century is just 7.
However, with plenty of exciting second-shots expected at Erin Hills, it will favour those with a bit of flair and those who are comfortable shaping the ball both ways, meaning strokes gained approaching the green will be a telling stat. The slick greens will suit aggressive putters, but form with the short-stick is part and parcel of doing well in most tournaments. Salvaging pars from wayward approaches will be challenging this week, making Scrambling a key stat to consider, with a certain amount of creativity required.
This will certainly favour the younger generation and the more athletic golfer.Drat, I just got a kindle this Christmas. Guess I should have waited on more year. What better method of delivery. Price razors at a really low point and then racketeer customers with the blades. Wilbur: first of all, allow me to congratulate you for the brilliant, witty, and glorious remark. Thought it might help you not be an ass on the internet the next time you consider quipping your thoughts.
Relax, he made a reasonable and valid point. So yes, it absolutely could happen with some subsidy magic, and the graph is an interesting clue that might indicate as much. Which should be about now. Why not just focus on sending free kindle to their biggest ebook subscribers and ebook clubs, I mean common sense tells me that they would more likely purchase ebooks than a movie subscriber.
Why would I want a movie along side kindle. I think the goal is to get new customers, or increase purchasing among low-volume users. The top buyers are probably already buying every book they have time to read.
My books are selling smartly for ereaders, too. In fact, The Righteous, my thriller set in a polygamist enclave has sold 1,000 copies in the last week for Kindles alone.
The OECD report puts the cost of printing a typical paper at 28 per cent and the cost of sales and distribution at 24 per cent: so the physical being of the paper absorbs 52 per cent of all costs. We buy less kindle books because a with a physical book we can buy one copy and share it. If this was possible with kindle books my family would buy more snooks. Set up a specific account just for kindle books and register all your purchases with that account.
Two iPhones, 2 iPads, two computers, one ebook. We all have access to all the books on the account. I wonder if that will extend to Prime customers of non-US stores. This idea of giving Prime members free Kindles was actually first theorized in Feb. But the story is written as though it was just a while ago.
A very low price Kindle or bundle with Amazon Prime will be a huge win for the platform. I did notice the other day that an Amazon Prime subscription beats a CostCo membership hands down. Once you get me from visiting a box store (great. This is as weird as it gets. Unless Amazon wants to piggy back on the logistics chain it has already set up.
Amazon will probably give Kindles away to encourage people to buy eBooks. It would be a great marketing strategy. Yes, this is something that is firmly of the LAST century.
It should be obvious by this point that gadgets are not the value proposition for consumers. Not so slowly but surely, the cows are being led down the chute to paying for the content they consume. What is interesting are the implications for geek technology cultures which previously signified first adopters and heralded either success or failure of a service or product.Samford (Spread)North Dakota vs.

Creating a cluster is a process that can take just a few seconds or a few days depending on the size of the dataset used as input and on the workload of BigML's systems. The cluster goes through a number of states until its fully completed. Through the status field in the cluster you can determine when the cluster has been fully processed and ready to be used to create predictions. Thus when retrieving a cluster, it's possible to specify that only a subset of fields be retrieved, by using any combination of the following parameters in the query string (unrecognized parameters are ignored): Fields Filter Parameters Parameter TypeDescription fields optional Comma-separated list A comma-separated list of field IDs to retrieve.
Each centroid has associated a pre-computed dataset that has been created using all the instances in the neighborhood. Each model separates between those instances that belong to the centroid neighborhood and those that belong to other neighborhoods. Once you delete a cluster, it is permanently deleted. If you try to delete a cluster a second time, or a cluster that does not exist, you will receive a "404 not found" response. However, if you try to delete a cluster that is being used at the moment, then BigML.
To list all the clusters, you can use the cluster base URL. By default, only the 20 most recent clusters will be returned. You can get your list of clusters directly in your browser using your own username and API key with the following links. You can also paginate, filter, and order your clusters.
Anomaly Detectors Last Updated: Monday, 2017-10-30 10:31 Anomaly detectors can be applied to a variety of domains like fraud detection, security, quality control, medicine, etc. BigML anomaly detectors are built using an unsupervised anomaly detection technique. Therefore, you do not need to explicitly label each instance in your dataset as "normal" or "abnormal". When you create a new anomaly detector, it automatically returns an anomaly score for the top n most anomalous instances.
The newly created anomaly detector can also be used to later create anomaly scores for new data points or batch anomaly scores for all the instances of a dataset. You can also list all of your anomaly detectors.
This can be used to change the names of the fields in the anomaly detector with respect to the original names in the dataset or to tell BigML that certain fields should be preferred. Must be a number greater than or equal to 2 and less than or equal to 1000 (or 16 in development mode). All the fields in the dataset Specifies the fields to be considered to create the anomaly detector.
The range of successive instances to build the anomaly detector. Example: "MySample" tags optional Array of Strings A list of strings that help classify and index your anomaly detector.
The minimum number is 1 and the maximum is 1024.
